The European Green Deal includes a target to reduce transport-related greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2050. In this regard, the European Commission intends to adopt a comprehensive strategy to meet this target and ensure that the EU transport sector is ready for a clean, digital and modern economy.
To help meet its strategy, a roadmap was developed by the European Commission, with the following objectives:
- increasing the uptake of zero-emission vehicles to deliver a 90% reduction in transport-related
greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,
- making sustainable alternative solutions available to the public & businesses,
- supporting digitalisation and automation,
- improving connectivity and access.
The roadmap is open for feedback until 29 July 2020. Click here to add your feedback. The European Commission will summarise the input received in a synopsis report explaining how the input will be taken on board and, if applicable, why certain suggestions can’t be taken up.
Furthermore, the European Commission also organises a public consultation which targets all citizens and organisations. The consultation seeks to gather the views of citizens and stakeholders on the elements of the Strategy for a Sustainable and Smart Mobility. You can respond by filling the questionnaire which looks into how the current framework set out in 2011 White Paper has delivered up to now. The deadline for final input is 23 September 2020.
