According to a study done by Cambridge Econometrics for the European Climate Foundation, the shift from ICE to zero-emission vehicles will not only benefit the environment but also impact different sectors of the economy. The report assess the likely economic impacts and the transitional challenges associated with decarbonising the European car fleet in the medium and the long term.

The study tackles one of the main concerns of the expansion of electromobility, which is related to charging infrastructure. According to the report, despite electricity grids will need to be reinforced and modernized, if electric vehicles are charged smartly, there will no be significant impact on electricity grids.

The study also suggests that the transition to clean mobility demands a systemic approach, considering solutions and transport modes beyond the automotive sector and takes into account the impact of shared mobility, as an important element for the transition to low-carbon mobility.
