ELVITEN demonstrations have gone live in Bari!
Bari is the second most important economic centre in the South of Italy, with around 325,000 inhabitants. Its port is considered the largest passenger hub on the Adriatic Sea and attracts over 500,000 passengers annually. A large university city with hot and dry summers and mild winters, makes it a lively city full of history rich with the diversity of migrants and a younger crowd.
The city of Bari is almost completely flat making it ideal for the use of electric light vehicles (EL-Vs). The Regional Plan of Transport for 2015-2019 shows that the main mode of transport used by citizens is cars or vans (52%), followed by motorcycles (22%), public transportation (18%), and bicycles (5%). The aim of ELVITEN is to deploy 75 e-Bikes and raise awareness through the #LetsGoElectric campaign to upscale the use of more sustainable modes of transport.
ELVITEN project partner Politecnico Di Bari (POLIBA) has teamed up with S3Transportation to bring 75 Rad Power Bikes to the southern Italian city. 60 EL-Vs will be assigned as a corporate leasing scheme to the Polytechnic University of Bari, Acquedotto Pugliese of Bari, Port Authority, University of Bari, hotels and bed and breakfasts. The target users will be the employees of each company as well as tourists. Each company will provide parking spaces and charging points, and selected users will be granted short term use. 15 EL-Vs will also be provided to private agencies and fleet owners for rental services (including small parcel deliveries).
Interested participants can register at www.elviten-city-users-registration.eu. Selected users are then guided through the ELVITEN unifying app and given an e-Bike that can be used to explore the city using the Elvigame. Like the demonstrations occurring in Malaga, users receive incentives and have access to e-Hubs where they can charge and store their e-Bikes. The black boxes placed on the e-bikes will collect and store useful information that will help ELVITEN create guidelines for integration of EL-Vs into the urban transport system.
