On 2 October in Graz, Austria, CIVITAS will host its 17th edition of the CIVITAS Forum Conference. The forum brings together industry leaders from all over the continent and beyond to discuss and analyse the most pressing mobility issues and come up with pioneering solutions to bring better and cleaner transport to Europe. As is part of the tradition, CIVITAS will hold an Awards Ceremony during the forum that will highlight some of the most innovative, ambitious and successful sustainable urban mobility work that is currently being carried out.
A call has been launched for applications to the 2019 CIVITAS Awards. All cities that have signed the CIVITAS Declaration and are members of the CIVITAS Forum Network are are invited to apply by 19 July (those interested in applying who have not yet become Forum members may complete and sign the declaration here). There are four categories in which applicants can win prizes, with the possibility of entries in multiple categories. The four categories are as follows:
- The Bold Measure award rewards a daring approach that has yet to be implemented and examples of ambition leading to successful outcomes
- The Citizen & Stakeholder Engagement award rewards a city that has successfully engaged its citizens and/or relevant stakeholders to tackle local urban mobility challenge
- The CIVITAS Legacy award rewards a city that has translated its commitment to the CIVITAS network and sustainable mobility into high-impact, innovative measures
- The Transformation award, which rewards a city that has used mobility measures to transform itself into a smarter and more liveable environment
Winners are selected by the CIVITAS Award Jury, apart from the transformation award that will be chosen by the CIVITAS Political Advisory Committee. The prizes include a custom trophy and letter of acknowledgement signed by the European Commission, visibility through the CIVITAS website and promotional material as well as pan-European media coverage and invitations to EC conferences and workshops organised by DG MOVE.
The CIVITAS awards provides a platform for cities and towns to and share their excellence in the field. Recipients of the award not only have their efforts in policy-making and implementation highlighted but also receive recognition from the European Commission. Winners also serve as role models to other cities and towns all across Europe, inspiring others to create their own initiatives in order to make cleaner and better urban transport.
