A short introduction of your organisation.
SEAbility is an SME, active in the fields of intermodal Freight Transport (road, air, and sea), and logistics. By leveraging its expertise in these domains, SEAbility also has become an ICT and technology provider, offering Service oriented Architecture (SoA) solutions and consultancy services covering all areas of transportation and also fields related to environmental issues, smart mobility, energy, safety and security applications.
Currently, SEAbility is promoting the use of new technologies and the uptake of novel and disruptive trends in logistics, transport and mobility, such as cargo modularisation, cargo tracking, green transport, the Internet of Things (IoT), and deployment of telematics, communication, sensors and devices.
What is your task/responsibility in the ELVITEN project?
Within ELVITEN project, SEAbility is engaged in the ICT Requirements analysis and assets inventory as well as in ICT platform tools and services integration by supporting both the ICT tools deployment and the sustainable business model identification for Trikala city. SEAbility is also providing its services in Trikala demonstration supporting data collection and user engagement.
What was your interest in joining the ELVITEN project?
During the last decade, SEAbility is devotedly working towards the direction of reducing its environmental footprint through supporting the development of novel ICT services and tools, for facilitating the decarbonation of urban freight transport. That’s why joining ELVITEN project, was a real opportunity for Seability. It has been given not only the chance to further develop its expertise on the electromobility related ICT solutions but also to collaborate with a remarkably qualified team, united in its vision to boost electromobility with an urban, social and business added value.
What is your opinion on Electric-Light Vehicles?
The transition to low and -even possible- zero-emission vehicles has become paramount for reaching the ambitious environmental mitigation targets, as they have been described in The European strategy for low-emission mobility. At the same time, the environmental improvement in the transport sector is considered very slow. Towards this direction, Electric Vehicles are considered as a very dynamic promising solution, while Electric-Light Vehicles are constituting a substantial segment of the wider Electric Vehicles market. Electric-Light Vehicles seem to start evolving given the technological improvements and upgrades in batteries and the increasingly higher environmental awareness and sustainability for air quality and subsequently for the quality of life. However, the acceptance of e-mobility and its penetration in our everyday lives need further examination of the individual’s mobility attitude and patterns, and that is what ELVITEN aims at.
Could you explain the impact of EL-Vs on urban mobility?
Electric mobility is expected to pave the way towards a new culture of urban and mobility planning. Running alongside, ELVITEN encourages the wider use of EL-Vs, recognizing the multiple benefits (economic, social, environmental) in the urban mobility as well as the arising need of a modal shift in individual mobility and more precisely to lighter, smaller, and more environmentally friendly alternatives. The usage of EL-Vs is expected to have substantial impact on the urban environment, health, energy consumption, society, air and noise pollution and at the same time, to allow the integration of EL-Vs with other private and public modes of transport, facilitating the daily commuting and the delivery trips.
What do you think about the future market for urban mobility?
The future market of urban mobility considers clean, decarbonized, and cost/ time efficient transportation as a prerequisite. Electromobility along with automation, ITS and smart mobility solutions tend to create synergies towards this direction and disrupt the traditional mobility patterns. According to the European Roadmap Electrification of Road Transport ‘the future market penetration of EVs depends on a multitude of factors including technological developments and breakthroughs, policy support, deployment of charging infrastructure…future customer needs for mobility and their acceptance of new technologies…’. And this is what ELVITEN is working on!
